Other mods, accessories, cool parts, etc: Custom Alloy Tank from Richard Phelps at TabII classics, Aftermarket Glass bubble seat that was cut, shaved and hacked from Airtech, The upholstery was done by my local secret guy that I brought a picture to of the most ghey looking Italian shoes that I could find and had him copy it, Vintage custom fairing with custom fitted windshield and headlight, cut off all the unnecessary tabs and chucked all the unnecessary electronics and re-wired and relocated all the rest of the electronics onto the bike into a small box under the seat, after market starter switch, key less- just a power switch, no electronics on handlebars, no blinkers, custom tail light and head light, F3 forks, Bubs exhaust, Drilled out Sprocket cover done by Wompy at Still Kickin, Alloy rear adjustable Icon Shocks, K&N Air Filters, Custom lexicon rear mud guard and an alloy seat base guard, King bar end mirror, Custom one off Foot Pegs done by Wompy at Still Kickin, functional tiny racing battery, Custom gauge bracket with after market gauges, Avon front tire and Bridgestone rear, wide rear tire kit with Excel rims - engine properly tuned to run like a champ.

Radical Ducati :: RAD02 Pursang

The guys from Radical Ducati in Madrid are making a name for themselves building ultra-lightweight Ductai rippers. This one here is no exception.

Based on Multistrada 1100 engine and Monster S2R single-sided swingarm, this bike is ready to party.
They created a custom-built aluminum tank, as well as the carbon fiber tail. Ohlins suspensions throughout, LED turn indicators, and Marchesini aluminum wheels complete the package. The frame and the swingarm are both painted white as a tribute to the Ducati machines from the 90's. Radical Ducati has also fitted K&N air filters, EVR slipper clutch, and a custom 2 in 1 exhaust system, consisting of WolfMan collectors and a very loud Spark megaphone.

Check out this custom 2011 Triumph Thruxton. Owner Brian purchased the Thruxton in August 2010 and quickly started thinking how he could make the bike look unique. Unsatisfied with the original paint he began to think of his options. Being a big art history fan...
he chose the painting "Triumph of Bacchus and Ariadne" by Annibale Carracci (1602). After mocking it up in Photoshop he brought his concept to Fred Sicolli at Killer Kreations here in Philadelphia. The rest speaks for itself..

Bullitt Build :: Yamaha XS750

Like the ladies here in Orange County - California, that is - this XS needs a tummy tuck and a face lift just to fit in on these trendy streets. This shaft driven 1977 Yamaha XS 750 has been choking down the twinkies and is going vegan...stat! No more double mocha frappuccinos from the local Starbies either.
We're teaming up with an up and coming local builder Jeremy Moltrup and will be collaborating on this entire build. The bike's getting completely stripped down, detabbed, tail looped and shortened. Modern USD forks from a ZX-10R with some meaty tires are replacing the dinky existing front end. She'll be getting a custom seat and other tasty bits. By the time we're done with her, she'll be a lean, mean cafe racing machine. Keep one eye on The Bullitt to watch her go from zero to hero!

The sequel to the Icon original video: Motorcycle vs. Car Drift Battle - Nick 'Apex' Brocha is back and this time he brought his Empire teammate, Ernie Vigil. The two are mounted on a pair of crackling Triumph Speed Triples - built by Roaring Toyz for the sole purpose of going sideways.
Over the last year their quest to find the ultimate drifting playground has led them to the rolling hills of High Plains County. Low traffic, perfect asphalt and endless twisties have kept them busy resurfacing roads with their rear tires for weeks. The only problem is the local authorities have had enough. Enter Police Officer Dan Brockett, the only man with the muscle to keep these two in sight. His 550 horsepower Ford Mustang Cobra was built for speed and he's got a license to use it...

Deus Ex Machina :: The Venice SR500

Bikes are starting to roll out the doors of Deus Ex Machina's new shop in Venice, CA. This is the first SR to make it's appearance - a caffeinated SR500 bound for Oyster Bay, New York. This is the fourth bike built by Michael "Woolie" Woolaway for Billy Joel and 20th Century Cycles. Crafted and conceived by Woolie based on the brief provided by Billy Joel and Alex from 20th Century Cycles.

The spec list is rather impressive:
TZ 750 front brake, Buchanans rims with 304 SS spokes, hand made fender by 7metal West, vintage Ducati Mona headlight modified to fit the Motogadget speedo, hand made head light bracket, NOS Tommaselli clip ons and a quarter turn race throttle. The tank is a copy of a works Honda CR then heavily modified to fit the SR frame. The motor has a big J&E forged piston with all new valves and rocker with a fully ported set up, Megicycle cam shaft and FCR flat slid carb. The frame was straightened by Dr John and then modified with a loop tail. The seat was hand crafted from the pan up - leather work was by C&C's. Works Performance shocks were engineered by Pierre for Billy's weight . A & A Racing in Northern CA, a legendary old school Flat Track custom shop who have been racing and building parts for over 30 years, built the triple clamps (with adjustable offset) as well as the chrome-moly swing arm. The A & A Racing rear hub is a fully adjustable with knock offs and full floating rear brake hanger (over sized rotor and Brembo caliper).

British Customs 2-into-1 Exhaust

The Bullitt got to team up with British Customs to work on their new 2-into-1 exhaust system. We're developing the step-by-step instructions to assist customers in installs of their own. We've had this sytem on our bike for about a month and are completely in love. You don't just gain style points with this system...
though we can't argue with the more aggressive/racer look to the bike, you also get increased performance. The bike has not yet been on the dyno to confirm but estimated gains are approximately 3-5 hp. Considering this particular bike was running straight headers previously, the gains seem even better. Throttle response is much more crisp and the bike feels reborn. British Customs will be offering this set up in both the straight exit (pictured above) as well an upswept, Moto GP-style option as well. If you're looking for style and performance out of your modern Triumph (Bonneville, Thruxton or Scrambler), you should definitely give this system a hard look.

During yesterday's pre-run of the Slab City venue, city officials in the area strongly advised cancelling the event. Failure to do so, we were told, might result in significant headaches from local law enforcement. To avoid such grief, Slab City Riot 3 is cancelled. Damn the man!

The Wuss Ride is still pulling out of Temecula, CA, at 11:00 am Friday, and will end at a new undisclosed location for desert riding and camping.

For the past two years we've been following LA-based photographer Scott Toepher's personal project entitled 'It's Better In The Wind'. He's been road-tripping North America taking stills and shooting Super 8. Street Triples...so hot right now!

Triumph's Street Triples are naked, fast and light. What more could a ton-up boy ask for in a platform for a great cafe racer or flat tracker?! That being said, seeing customized Street Trips is a relatively rare thing...especially good looking ones. Lately not one but two fun looking Street Triples have graced the "pages" of BikeEXIF.

Back in June of this year we saw the Triumph Hellfire - a flat tracker conversion kit from the German Triumph dealer Motorcorner. Much of the actual mechanics are left stock - aside from body panels, they swap in more aggressive wheels and tires and upgrade the exhaust. Pricing is estimated at £12,000 (US$17,300) so though it may not be cheap, I'm sure she'd be a good time.

Earlier this week came the Ace 675CR Street Triple Special. Jack Liley, a West London Triumph Dealer since 1959, is building customized Street Triple R's that bear the Ace Cafe insignia. Mods are minimal and tasteful to the already tuned bike including a single 7" headlight, custom graphics, Arrow cans, heat tape for the exhaust and loads of LSL bits like clip-ons, rear sets, mirrors, and their 'tail tidy' kit. Liley's only building 10 and they're going for £12,999 (around US$20,700). Get 'em while they're hot!

Benjies Cafe Racer has been teasing us with promises to add some tasty cafe bits for Triumph's 'Modern Classic' line for some time now. If you're not familiar with BCR, they build one-off cafe style bikes and various hand crafted cafe racer motorcycle parts channeling the aggressive 60's and early 70's styling.

Well, in this case go ahead! The Wrenchmonkees have crafted a beautifully a square Yamaha RD400 café. The hard-lined body work and rectangular headlight blends tastefully with its boxy engine. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Bali and at the top of my list of things to do, making it to Deus in Canggu - the famed 'Temple of Enthusiasm' - was at the top of my list. Upon arriving in Seminyak, to my surprise there was a Deus there too! According to their website, this location is described as, "As well as becoming the center for the Deus enthusiasm in Seminyak, the Cycleworks houses Deus clothing, hand built track bicycles, motorcycles and surfboards and it's very own Deus Cafe." About the size of a small surf shop, this location oozed all things Deus and was my stop for many a great meal.

Over 30+ bikes (mostly Hinkley Triumphs) came out to ride for BA Moto's 3 year anniversary ride last Sunday. The route took us up the sunny California Coast starting at The Pike in Long Beach, over the bridges and the Long Beach harbor, through Palos Verdes' costal roads and ended back at Alex's Bar for some bbq, booze and live entertainment. I wish all days could be like this.

Lossa Engineering Open House

Lossa Engineering's open house was a good time for all. Local radio station KROQ was there pumping tunes, there were some good food trucks - even a desert truck. Aside from all of the good stuff to take in from Lossa's shop alone, there were tons of awesome bikes that people rode in on. There were vintage Ducatis, Benellis, Gileras, Triumphs, Hondas, Moto Guzzi's...a great turn out! On top of all that, Sean and Jason from British Customs were there with two of their bikes and some of the guys from The Speed Merchant with a few of their bikes as well. If you missed it, you really missed it.

Jay's shop was clean and impressive with plenty off bikes with potential waiting to get 'the treatment'. At Lossa they do just about everything from scratch - weld, fabricate sheet metal, machine, paint, upholster, rebuild motors and so on. The only part of their bike builds they don't do in house is the powder coating, chroming, zinc plating and polishing. The bike hanging from the ceiling above is a Yamaha RD400 that Jay and famous LA-based bike builder Yoshi Kosaka of Garage Company built together for Cafe Racer season 2.

Jay is selling replica builds of his now famous 'Poco Bastardo' CB160 built for actor Jason Lee. Get 'em while there hot!

British Customs was representing with two of their bikes, the 'Back to Basics' Bonneville and their cafe racer Thruxton that can be caught on Cafe Racer Season 2 in October.

The BA Moto boys showed up too with a recently finished build as seen previously on The Bullitt.

A Pair of Norton Racers

Bonhams added two unique competition machines to its third annual motorcycle auction at Quail Lodge on May 14th. The 1959 Norton Manx 500 and 1956 Norton Daytona 500.

Both of these bikes have some real racing history with documented podium finishes. The Manx was an AFM/ACA National championship winner ridden to victory in the 1960s by Buddy Parriot, the first American to ever win GP points – on this very bike – and who once came in second on a Norton only to the legendary Mike Hailwood.

DP Customs 'Naked Café'

We haven't featured too many American café racers here on The Bullitt but have a fine exapmle of one for you today. Based on a 1980 Harley Davidson Ironhead and sporting a paint job inspired by the #2 Audi R18 TDI that took home this year's Le Mans, the DP Customs Naked Cafe Motorcycle is a head turner. Powered by a 1000cc motor, their own Quantum-port symmetrical custom exhaust, Pirelli tires and paired down styling, the Del Prado brothers put out a clean and cool racer.

1954 AJS E95 Porcupine Racing Motorcycle

With a name like that, you wouldn't expect the 1954 AJS E95 Porcupine Racing Motorcycle ($750,000-$950,000; Auction) to be very comfortable. And maybe you'd be right — but the Porcupine wasn't built for comfort. It was built for speed. Described as the "Holy Grail of British motorcycles," the Porcupine is the only twin-cylinder motorcycle ever to have won the 500cc World Championship. This particular specimen was one of only four E95s to be built, and features a spectacular exposed clutch, an AC fuel pump that humorously requires the bike to be stood on its rear wheel for priming, a full 54bhp or power, and a streamlined design, and underwent a complete mechanical restoration in the early '00s, meaning that it should run as well as it did more than half a century ago. via uncrate

The guys in Bengkel put together a sweet little ripper. Starting it's life as 1999 Honda GL Pro 150cc, it was quickly transformed. Their client asked them to make a version of another bike they'd built before, modeled after a Kawi W650. The bike consists of a highly polished engine and a pool of antique white on the tank offer the only respite on this sea of black on black. Twin Daytona gauges, Japanese indicators, custom tank, seat, headlight with custom built stone guard, chain guards and the list goes on. See below for a full list of mods.

Survivor: 1967/'68 Triumph TR6C Desert Sled

"Long before modern heroes backflipped for TV cameras and energy drink contracts, tough men thrashed modified street machines in the lonely deserts of the Southwest USA and Baja. This is one of those bikes." - Bill Bryant of Chop Cult

This particular sled was owned by Motorcycle Hall of Famer Mike (Party Animal) Parti and was campaigned in 1969 and 1970. Wes White of Four Aces Cycle in Pacoima, CA, plucked it up a few years back and pulls it out once in a while for a rip around the parking lot. Its days of competition are over, and it's left as a monument to what Wes calls the "Essence of Mojave".

Once Wes entered it in a concourse event where one judge told him afterward that his filthy bike was an "insult to the men who spent countless hours restoring their machines." Another judge at the same event loved the bike and understood exactly why Mr. White will likely never give this bike a bath. Don't want to scrub off that essence man, you can't get that back.

The machine is built around a 1967 frame with a 1968 TR6C (single carb competition) engine. Like all desert machines, this one's built to win races of attrition--not for top speed or to win shiny bike shows. Significant mods abound. Note the pre-unit Lucas K2F mag which has been grafted to unit cases. Think about it, you wouldn't want a mag hanging off the side just to be wrecked the first time the rider dumped it in a sand wash. Other mods are questionable but period-correct. Did putting a few links of chain around the fork legs to "preload" the springs really work? Who knows, but it was one more place to carry a few extra links. The cross bar serves as a good location for a few more and a master link, of course. Can you imagine how valuable a master link was to the first desert racer who got stuck in the middle of nowhere without one? Saving the chain is a common theme as you look at the handmade chainguard fitted over the gigantic rear sprocket. Garden hose over cut-down folding foot pegs is a far cry from the cast titanium pegs riders use today. The gear box horn has been removed for better oil line access and the oil filler has been moved forward to be out of the way.

Can a machine have soul? It's just a bunch of rubber, aluminum and steel, right? I argue that a bike like this with its legacy of scars and purposeful mods has more soul than a hungover Baptist choir. It clearly is a visual legacy left by men who made their fun the hard way and we're proud to document it here.

Triumph Tridays-Eleven

Saw this on Bike Exif. This is a custom build for Tyrolean screenwriter Uli Brée. Brée is also the organizer of the Tridays festival held in Austria each year. Q-Bike of Hamburg modified the frame and developed the engine, which now pumps out 94 hp. That’s an increase of almost 30 hp over stock, helped by radically revised internals and twin Keihin FCR41 carburetors with extended bellmouths. The geometry and suspension was overseen by LSL-Motorradtechnik, who installed top-spec Öhlins forks and shocks, plus LSL wheels, custom triple trees and bars. Finally, the bodywork was designed by Ivo Tschumi in Switzerland, and painted by Michael Schönen of Lackmus.

Triumph Small Displacement Single Cylinder Rumors

Found an interesting article by Paul Crowe at "The Kneeslider".
As noted the other day in comments on the post about Triumph heading to India, there are rumors of Triumph planning a new street single in the 350cc range. I notice the August issue of Motorcyclist picked up on an article from Motociclismo, reporting on plans to assemble a motorcycle in Manuas, Brazil from knock down kits manufactured in Thailand. It would show up sometime in 2012.

The engine would be a liquid cooled 4 valve single, displacing anywhere from 267cc to 350cc depending on the market.

As rumors go, this one is getting a lot of traction but no one is confirming things one way or the other.

True or not, would a 350cc street single work in the US? In many other countries, yes, but here? We've tossed the idea around before of everyone thinking they need a big bore bike, even though something in the 350 range would be perfectly suited for newer riders and even some who are just looking for a casual weekend ride. Lots of us "men of a certain age" who fondly remember the 60s, when a 305 Honda was a lot of bike, have to admit those days are long gone. A 350cc engine today would do everything those early engines did and a lot more but attitudes have been shaped by the big engines now stuffed in everything from beginner bikes to super bikes. Then again, one of these singles would be pretty affordable and it might get a foothold on cost alone.

If this Triumph appears in the US, getting a few riders to try it might be enough to generate decent sales and it might help reestablish the idea that bigger isn't necessarily better. Interesting.

Roland Sands and Drake McElroy got together at a private track in a undisclosed location in Southern California to have a little track time fun with there Custom Super Singles Motorcycles. This footage was put together as a homage to the days of Cafe Racer Glory. Roland converted a Honda CR 500 and Drake Converted a Yamaha YZ 450.
